You are invited to the opening of Karina Perez Aragon's new show at Mamia Breteche's gallery.
Karina is an Argentine painter who lives and works in NYC and shows her work internationally.
Her latest series of small format oil on canvas paintings - "In the City" -is an architectural endeavor toward the discovery of space as an element of cultural expression and communication. In the work of Karina Perez Aragon, we follow a fluctuation between reductive notions and a certain extravagant disposition of forms, clearly observed in postmodern architecture as well.
The work of Perez Aragon is linked to the concept of "metaphysics of presence", which is carefully considered by certain areas of deconstructivism.
A strong desire toward the discovery of meanings is expressed through the display of different combinations of shape and color. Constantly playing with the general perception of limit and balance, the artist transits across quite risky combinations of form and contrast, trying to prove the relativity of order and reality.
"In the City" allow us to contemplate not only physical but also personal or interior spaces that belong to human mental movements or activities. In the paintings of Perez Aragon we often observe opposites such as presence and absence, movement and static. The artist raises many questions while proposing insight into different conceptions.
"In the City" is an exploration of architecture, a leap from space to canvas: the observation of characteristic movements of a particular city, and of different cities and spaces.
