DENNIS HOPPER EXHIBITION AT THE ART DISTRICT GALLERY OF THE ROYAL MONCEAU
Art District celebrates its first anniversary with an exhibition of unseen Dennis Hopper photographs.
As one of the major figure of American counterculture, Dennis Hopper is well-known as a film director and as an actor. Still, he was also a photographer whose pictures complete his artist's vision of the 60's.
During shooting Rebel with a cause, Dennis Hopper became friend with James Dean, who introduced him to the Californian artistic scene and encouraged him to develop his creativity through other forms than acting. Dennis Hopper chose Los Angeles walls as a favorite subject and showed in his work a true fascination for abstract impressionism and pop art.
Walter Hopps, founder of the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, talked about him saying that : « He knew how to picture artists in settings that reflected what he thought about them and about their art ».
At the crossroad of cinema and photography, two faces of the Royal Monceau artistic identity, the Dennis Hopper exhibition in partnership with the Almine Rech Gallery is an opportunity to discover a new facet of an unusual talented artist, both actor, movie director, creator and art collector.
Dennis Hopper exhibition from October, the 19thto December, the 3th2011
